Another (final?) ~domestic~ nature observation
Coming to you live from the Greenhouse with an update on all the flora and fauna in our household!
As I've mentioned (because I'm completely obsessed with her), a little kitten has entered our home! Sweet Daisy Ruth is the cutest, cuddliest, sassiest little creature I've ever seen, and I think I finally understand unconditional love. Pets are lifechanging, I've gotta say. If Daisy could somehow live under my shirt like Edward Abbey's gophersnake, I would totally walk around attached to her all day long.
~Another update: she did survive class last week and make it out of the wall if anyone was concerned! It just took about 7 mins and a lot of treats and cajoling from me. She has since found a hole in the wall of our house behind the water heater that she now likes to sit in when I'm at work, so Olivia and I have become adept at scooping her out of the wall, though she mostly comes out on her own unless she's particularly annoyed with Jack.~
Daisy and Jack are also becoming friends (or at least not killing eachother which we're considering progress. Baby steps to best-friend-ship!) Jack is reeeeally excited to play with Daisy and sniff her butt. Daisy is a little more hesitant and hisses at Jack a lot. Generally, she doesnt mind him too much unless he gets too excited and accidentally steps on her tail like yesterday. She was very unhappy with that occurrence and had to be fished out from under the couch after a long sulk.
Jack is getting SO BIG. He came back from his visit to Olivia's house in Minnesota over Halloween, and I almost didn't recognize him! He's not too big to be picked up when he jumps the gate to my room and gets into Daisy's food, but he's at a size that can't be comfortably held for long. His shiny, thick fur is coming in too and he's just looking like such a grown up boy! Side note: Daisy is also growing and has almost reached 2 lbs!! She can't have her surgery (after which I can officially adopt her) until she gets a little bigger, but she's doing really well for now (and I wouldn't be opposed to her staying a kitten forever).
Olivia went on a plant buying spree and added some lovely greenery to our home, some of which we have yet to identify. (We'll have to soon so we can make a watering schedule for Christmas break!) My cherry tomatoes are about big enough to pick and eat, though still not quite turning red. The rest of the plant is sadly dying so I think I'll only get the one harvest, but I'll try to replant my garden in the spring (rather than in 100 degree August weather... The enthusiam was there, but possibly not my best plan). I am down to one solitary last basil plant, but it is mostly alive and still producing lots of basil! I've pruned it a few times and it's filling out nicely!
We'll definitely be re-planting the patio garden in the spring, and I've been wanting to get a larger indoor plant for my room, but otherwise we've put a pause on adding any more creatures or flora to the house for now. Though Olivia was eyeing a venus fly trap the other day whuch I think would be pretty fun to have...
Thank you for following along with the Greenhouse's planting and adopting sprees this semester! I've enjoyed my outdoor excursions, but I've also loved sharing the green spaces we've cultivated in our home (since we spend so much time here avoiding #COVID). Please hmu with any gardening tips or suited-to-Texas plants you know of for my future endeavors!
