Nature is Neat!

Full Transparency: I've kind of lost track of my "post" posts vs. observations each week... A few might have even blended together... which is fine because that's the natural way of things! They can now birth more hybrid posts since I'm officially lost as to which is what and where.

So, for the natural updates:

I did go for a run last week to acquire some much needed vitamin D + endorphins. This biomolecule blend proved to lift my spirits; though, I will admit that I forgot to take any pictures. I was too distracted blissfully enjoying the sunlight at the beginning of my run and vehemently cursing my cardiovascular system at the end.

My baby tomatoes are also doing well. The bottom of the plant persists in rejecting any nourishment caringly provided by me and my watering can. I suppose it wants to stay dry, dusty, and brown. Maybe the growing tomatoes are hoarding too many nutrients for the plant to spare support for its stem and lower leaves. I'll have to look into getting some fertilizer (or maybe using my compost?). The tomatoes are looking good, but staying green. I'm a little worried about them surviving the cold this week, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Jack and Olivia are out of town, so they don't have to survive the dog this week! Unless he dug them up after I checked on them yesterday... I really hope not!

Finally, we've added another furry friend to our household! I signed up at to foster a kitten (through the local shelter) since Jack and Olivia will be gone for a while over break and even our small duplex seems overwhelmingly empty alone. I'm still deciding on her name (I'm pretty positive I'm going to foster fail and adopt her - oopsie!) I'm currently between Ruthie and Daisy. I wanted to name her after a badass woman. I considered Audre Lorde, Virginia Woolfe, or Marsha P. Johnson. With the current political climate, I'm leaning towards Ruthie (after the notorious RBG). She's all black and, with a little white collar, she resembles her namesake! I'm also partial to the name Daisy which is completely random and also the name of Katie Perry's new baby girl.

In lieu of pictures from my outdoor excursions (2 walks and a run) last week, please enjoy kitten sleeping on my shoulder (which seriously boosted my seratonin level yesterday). As I'm typing this, she's leaning into her wild-feline instincts, pouncing on dustmotes by my feet. What an adorable little fluff ball.

OH I also saw a beautiful blue jay through the window at work this weekend, but missed getting a picture of it. And I made a vegetable sign! I think that was the extent of ~nature~ in my week.

  1. Ruthie/Daisy seems quite comfortable on your shoulder, which is a wonderful sign your nurturing has helped her. I've been thinking about fostering too, as I recently lost my old Nicodemus, a most remarkable, obdurate, strong-willed cat who lived till he was 18. I have been blessed with animals in my life. I can't imagine living without them. Loved your vegetable/Covid sign.
