Plant update!
Another ~domesticated~ nature observation for your Monday evening.

My cherry tomato plant is doing well, though no blooms yet. (I'm not sure what time of year cherry tomatoes actually bloom... I would assume spring? I will admit that I have not researched tomato-growing to the extent that I probably should. The basil is obviously the favorite child.)
I pruned the basil plants last week and got a great harvest. I'm eating a caprese salad as I write this post - cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, fresh basil, and a balsamic reduction - easy, delicious snack! Jack did dig up the basil again last week and two of my plants don't look like they're going to recover. My mom visited this weekend and doused the plants liberally with cayenne pepper (apparently a gardener's remedy to dogs and squirrels getting into plants and birdseed? Quite clever.) I did check and it's NOT harmful to dogs so Jackie should be just fine. Though, Jack will be slightly hindered from digging in the plants this week because he got fixed today.
The poor baby will be rocking this accessory for the next two weeks until his stitches can come out. So far, he bonks his cone into walls, doors, and legs repeatedly. As you can see, he doesn't seem enthusiastic with the arrangement but he's quite cute regardless.
Bender is also doing well and Olivia got a new plant for his bowl! Or the tiki mask sprouted some hair - whichever you prefer.
Additionally, we've added another little succulent and this lovely Majesty Palm and to the Greenhouse family. My mom and I potted the succulent at Ephemera, which is a very cool plant store. Hopefully, with their plant care support system, this little guy will thrive more than my other succulents.
The OG succulents are hanging in there after being dug up/sniffed/eaten by the dog (notice they've moved to a higher shelf!), but we're not sure how long they'll last. More updates to come!

I have always wanted to grow my own garden, and your post has reignited that passion. There is something so alluring about tending to and growing your own products that can then be used. The variety of plants is incredible!
ReplyDeletePamela! I loved reading your post and seeing your garden. Caprese is one of my favorite dishes and I am totally jealous - the fresh basil makes it even better! I too love gardening, however, I unfortunately do not have a great place for it at my house at TCU. If you love freshly grown produce and want some more variety to go along with your basil and tomatoes, I would totally recommend checking out the Clearfork Farmer's Market on Saturday. It's become one of my new favorite activities!! Your dog is also adorable and I hope his cone comes off soon! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you!! I used to run to the farmers market every Saturday morning and it was one of my favorite parts of the week! They used to do free yoga on the lawn too which I've always wanted to try but I think they stopped that bc of COVID. Now I work Saturdays, but I think I'll get up early and try to swing by before work one of these days!
